Ingleside, Texas

Date Fished: 11/30/04 Water Temperature: 0 Water Clarity: 0
Flounder Gigging- Went for the first time on a flounder rigged boat and don't think I will do it any other way from now on. You can cover so much water and try different spots so much faster. We gigged 18 nice sized flounder on pretty clear water. The temp was about 49 degrees and the north wind was blowing.

Oso Bay & Laguna Madre, Texas

Date Fished: 11/29/04 Water Temperature: 0 Water Clarity: 0
Tried Mud Bridge off of Yorktown where we had heard reports of drum, reds and specks hitting the night before. We tried everything, but they were not biting. Usually, we drive to the back were you can wade but it has rained recently. We then moved to Pier 37 under the J.F.K. causeway for an few hours or so and landed nothing but dozens of great american hard head. As soon as the cold front hit we left. I had heard reports about humble channel hitting today.

St. Joe's (San Jose) Island, Texas

Date Fished: 11/28/04 Water Temperature: 0 Water Clarity: 0
Flounder Gigging with Roman-We put in at the Crab Man Marina and went to St. Joe's (San Jose) Island and worked the shoreline looking for flounder. The water was cool but very, very murky. There were lots of boats and waders on both sides of the island but none looked to be getting any flounder. Decided to call it quits and moved by a private pier and actually fish with rod and reel. Caught and released about 25 small sand and speckled trout using live mullet and D.O.A.

Mustang Island, Texas

Date Fished: 11/27/04 Water Temperature: 0 Water Clarity: 0
Group of friends and I went out to the Fish Pass Jetties and the water looked calm, but the clarity wasn't that great. It was to difficult to cast and get mullet so we relied on live shrimp. There was only a few sand trout that we hooked into and no keepers except my brother who caught a nice 21" black drum.

Cast Nets {The Perfect Spread}

Here are a few unique ways I have found online to get that perfect spread everytime. A few of these methods takes a bit of practice but look forward to experimenting and seeing for yourself what works best.

  1. The Get-r-Done Method.
  2. The Calusa Method.
  3. The Curacao Method.
  4. The Aussie Method 1.
  5. The Aussie Method 2.

Fishin' With Roman - Port A Jetties

Date Fished: 11/18/04 Water Temperature: 0 Water Clarity: Murky

Went with family friend and amateur fishing guide Roman Mazurek to the Port A Jetties to go gigging. We put in at the Crab Man Marina and went to St. Joe's (San Jose) Island and worked the shoreline looking for flounder. The water was cool but very, very murky because of the large amount of rain the island received the day before (approx. 5 inches). There were lots of boats and waders on both sides of the island but none looked to be getting any flounder. There was 0 water visibility even in the shallows but I did manage to accidentally step on one flounder but didn't take any home. Only fished about an hour and then called it quits. Hope this weekend will be better.

Oso Bay & Laguna Madre, Texas

Date Fished: 11/13/04 Water Temperature: 0 Water Clarity: 0
Tried Humble Channel at the JFK Causeway with similar conditions and the same results yesterday. Usually around this time the Baffin Bay reds bound for Port Aransas must pass through the narrow Humble Channel to exit the Laguna Madre. That brings them past the piers of Cos Way and Red Dot bait stand. Usually, but not today. We then moved to Oso Bay for an hour or so and landed only one flounder on dead mullet.

Corpus Christi Bay, Texas

Date Fished: 11/12/04 Water Temperature: 59 Water Clarity: 0
Braved the weather today with northeast winds from 15-20 mph and 59 degrees which made it feel much colder. Black drum are good from the Indian Point Pier (many have been over 30 inches) on crabs. Anglers are reminded of a 5-fish per person, per day bag limit on black drum. Drum must be 14in. To 30in. long. Went gigging for flounder from the shoreline and they don't seem to be running yet. Only managed one.

Mustang Island & Corpus Christi Bay & Ingleside, Texas

Date Fished: 11/10/04 Water Temperature: 0 Water Clarity: 0
Conditions were not as good, but did the exact same thing and had the same results as yesterday. We then took a long drive to Ingleside and waded and only landed a few trout using D.O.A. shrimp rigged on popping cork.

Mustang Island & Corpus Christi Bay, Texas

Date Fished: 11/09/04 Water Temperature: 0 Water Clarity: Clear
Heard reports of good things this past weekend. Unfortunately nothing today though. The water clarity showed thousands of mullet, but nothing chasing them. Fisherman reported plenty of sand trout. After no action made a quick drive to Shamrock Cove and wade. Our only action would be here landing and releasing two skip jack.

Back To Fish Pass... (Day 2)

Date Fished: 11/07/04 Water Temperature: 0 Water Clarity: Clear Surf: Slightly Choppy

Got out to Fish Pass about 8:30 and caught a ton of mullet with just a few casts. Met my brother-in-law at the end of the Jetty and got started around 9 o'clock. One guy who had been there since about 4 am told us not to even try it because no one had caught anything since the day before which we already knew because we ripped it up here the day before. The naysayer left soon afterwards and I took his spot and began fishing. Within 5 minutes I hooked into a 25 inch red using live mullet hooked through the lip. After I landed it the fishing slowed down for about an hour until the Spanish Mackeral came in, chasing the schools of mullet. Caught 2 Spanish Macks and then hooked into a giant Redfish which I lost when I came up near the rocks, saw me, and took off, spitting the hook. My brother-in-law soon after hooked into a 27 1/2 inch Red which took nearly 15 minutes to land using a small spinning reel and 10 lb line. I ended up catching 2 more reds (20, and 23) and we took home a few more spanish mackeral and one 18 inch trout.

Fish Pass Jetties

Date Fished: 11/06/04 Water Temperature: 0 Water Clarity: Clear

Made my way out to fish pass around 1 pm Saturday after receiving a call from my brother-in-law stating "get your ass out to fish pass right now." The weather was excellent and the water was completely calm and clear. Large schools of mullet could be seen running every few minutes with lots of fish chasing the schools. Live mullet hooked through the lip produced an excellent catch of Spanish Mackeral. My younger brother and I took home 8 and 1 nice trout after only 3 hours of fishing.
