Flounder Pounding -Corpus Christi Bay

Date Fished: 06/26/06 Water Temperature: 0 Water Clarity: 0

Went out with my father-in-law in his flounder rigged boat. We went to a spot that we have been before, but not by ourselves. We managed to gig 4 in the first hour, but really had to work for the next 7. The flounder were not as big as other places we have been, but the quantity here was just fine for May. Most of the fish were in very shallow water near patches of grass.

Handy Tips & Hints #1

Besides cast neting a great way to catch live bait such as minnows or mullet. Get a clear (not opaque) juice or cordial bottle and cut a square about 75mm on the side of it and then place sand and rocks to keep in on the bottom. Finally place bread in it to attract the bait. Sometimes this catches more live bait than you could ever use so please return some of the bait, only take what you know you will use.

Joe Pool Lake, Texas

Date Fished: 06/21/06 Water Temperature: 80 Water Clarity: 3

Had a late start this morning after my alarm failed to wake me up. I really don't know why, that has really never happened to me before. The problem for me last night was really trying to sleep but couldn't and staying up pretty late totally excited about fishing in the morning, then falling asleep around 5:00am., never to wake again. Sorry Beau. We headed out to the lake around 6:30 and went straight to the sweet spot and immediately landed four using my trusty spinner. Winds were insane 20 mph gusts and really had no choice but to fish certian areas. Beau finally caught his first bass at the pool and ended up catching another small one using a jerk bait.

Note to self: Fix trolling motor correctly.

Went out on the lake for Mother's day and really didn't fish much, but enjoyed the lake with the wife and kids. No wind and a perfect day to be outside. I did spot a few areas that are holding fish and noticed that the hydrilla has moved a few yards from last season’s spots.

Joe Pool Lake, Texas

Date Fished: 05/07/06 Water Temperature: 68 Water Clarity: 1 ft

Went out this Sunday around 6:30 with overcast skies and little wind. Tried the same spot as last weekend and right off the bat landed a nice size bass with a white spinnerbait. I ended up landing 4 fish total. Two of the fish were white bass and I don't normally catch them there. They must have been following the bait fish that were along the bank.

All in all it was a great day and will try to go again next weekend.

Went fishing with my buddy Beau this Sunday and yes I finally landed a few bass on Joe Pool. The first for this season.

I managed to get 4 in the boat using a white spinnerbait all by Ty's spot. Three were quality fish and they were in about 8-12 feet of water hitting the surface.

We tried a few other spots, but were unsuccessful. The weather was perfect from 7 to 11 am and there was hardly any wind.
